"History"

During the year 1957, my Sensei, Roger Genereux, was stationed in Okinawa on a Naval base serving his tour of duty.  During this time, Genereux was able to study under Shoshin Nagamine, and Instructors of Matsubayashi-Ryu for approximately 2 years. After returning to central Ohio, Genereux continued his Art under Instructors such as Ansei Ueshiro, Shorin-Ryu and many other Instructors of Okinawan TE. During the middle of the 1960's, Genereux and other Blackbelts in Ohio brought Shoshin Nagamine to central Ohio.

Branches of Shorin-Ryu opened up over central Ohio under several Ohio black belts in Matsubayashi-Ryu. In 1972, two of the Okinawan trained Senseis, Genereux and Tootle, opened a school with the name of Ryu-Kyu Karate-Do, and for the last 27 years it has been taught as a True Okinawan Traditional School; "not as Sport Karate".

I have had the benefit of being a student of Ryu-Kyu Karate for the last 19 years and have studied under great American teachers such as Roger Genereux, Dusty Kline, Dennis Smalley, Ken Millisor, Jerry Clark and many more.

In the year of 1995, another Dojo under the Ryu-Kyu Karate-Do Federation, opened  with the name Ryu-Kyu Christian Karate-Do Federation. What makes this school different is that the school is non-profit.  It is a school that teaches any student that wants to learn the art of Okinawan-Te at no cost to the student. The school is funded by donations only. While the school is traditional, it stresses Christian Biblical teachings instead of Eastern Religion or Philosophy. I have always been grateful that God has given these men to be an inspiration in my life to teach Okinawan-Te, and I leave it in God's Hands to strengthen the lives of all Ryu-Kyu members.

RYU-KYU

CHRISTIAN KARATE-DO

"OKINAWAN-TE"

SCHOOL MOTTO

As a student of Ryu-Kyu Karate, I will find my strength in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I will use my art for seeking peace and strength. The only way I'll use my art on another is in the need of self-preservation or the preservation of another being's life, I know that, "no matter how I excel in the Martial Arts or in my scholastic endeavors, nothing is more important than my behavior or humanity as observed in daily life. I will always purify my mind and always be mentally and physically sound. Truth, honesty, faith, love, humility, wisdom and courage are all virtues I will hold close within my heart. I can do all things through Christ who strenghtens me, for this is where Ryu-Kyu gets its spirit and strength.
