The martial arts arose out of the fundamental human instict of self-preservation. No matter how you may excel in the art of TE and in your scholastic endeavors, nothing is more important than your behavior and your humanity as observed in daily life.
*TE literally means hand
THE ETHICS OF THE DOJO
1. First purify your mind.
2. Cultivate the power of perseverence by strengthening your body and overcoming the difficulties that arise during training.
3. The Dojo is the place where courage is fostered and superior human nature is bred through the ecstasy of sweating and hard work. It is the sacred place where the human spirit is polished.
PRECEPTS IN THE MASTERY
1. He is human and so am I.
2. I cannot develop my own potentialities when in the trap of self-limitation.
3. I must discard this self-limitation. If he practices three times, I must practice six times.
4. Do not be dependant upon others for your improvement.
5. Earnestly cultivate your mind as well as your body and believe in yourself.
6. Karate-Do may be referred to as the conflict within yourself or a lifelong marathon which can be won only through self discipline, hard training and your own creative efforts.
7. The true study of Karate must transcend the mere physical; it must become a way of life.
RULES OF THE RYU-KYU DOJO
1. Karate begins with courtesy and ends with it.
2. Attitudes towards others must be courteous to seniors, juniors, friends, and even foes.
3. NO profanity "AT ALL!"
4. No jewelry shall be worn; such as necklaces, watches, big rings or bracelets. This is for your safety as well as others. Exception: wedding rings, at your own discretion.
5. White GIs shall be worn, except Doshi-Kye members.
6. Always keep your GI clean.
7. Always keep yourself well groomed.
8. No horseplay.
9. No powerful blows to the vital parts of the body. These parts can suffer a mortal wound by a powerful blow.
10. No student will come to class intoxicated!
11. There will be no sexual harassment!
12. Dojo will be kept clean.
13. When you address Black Belts you will always use the word Sensei, "teacher".
14. If student is late for class he shall report to the Sensei before starting class.
15. If a student has to leave class early, he or she shall see their Sensei before leaving.
16. Your behavior outside the Dojo in your personal life shall not disgrace and dishonor our Dojo. This would include: 1. Using martial arts to get personal gains; 2. To criminally assault anyone; 3. To impose fear to anyone for personal satisfaction.
